About Daniel Rae
I’m an independent social media consultant, strategist and trainer. I work with organisations and agencies that want social media to be more focused, more effective and more commercially useful.
My work includes social media strategy, audits, training, senior advisory support and fractional leadership. That might mean helping a team sharpen its direction, supporting senior decision-making, or providing experienced input without the commitment of a full-time hire.
Alongside my consultancy work, I also lecture in marketing, which complements the training and capability-building side of what I do.
What I do
I support organisations in different ways depending on what they need.
Some engagements are defined projects, such as a social media audit or strategy. Others involve ongoing support through training, advisory work or fractional leadership.
I also work with agencies that need additional senior input across strategy, pitch work and client delivery.
Background and experience
Before working independently, I founded and grew one of Scotland’s best-known social media agencies. Over time, the business worked with a wide range of clients across sectors and was eventually acquired by PA Media.
That experience gave me a deep understanding of social media from multiple angles — strategy, content, client leadership, team development, commercial delivery and long-term growth.
Today, I bring that experience into consultancy work that is more focused, flexible and closely aligned to the needs of each client.
Who I work with
I work with organisations that want experienced support across social media, content and marketing.
That can include in-house teams looking for clearer direction, leadership teams needing senior input, or agencies wanting additional strategic support on client work.
My support is designed to be practical, commercially aware and shaped around where a business is now.
How I work
I aim to be thoughtful, straightforward and easy to work with.
That means clear advice, honest perspective and a focus on what will actually be useful — not overcomplicated frameworks or generic recommendations.
Whether I’m delivering a strategy project, running a workshop or working more closely in an advisory capacity, the goal is the same: to help make marketing and social media more effective, more joined-up and easier to act on.
